Pappu Obbittu | Paruppu Poli | Pappu Obbattu

Ingredients:

Maida - 1 cup

Ghee - 2 or 3 spoon

Channa dal | Kadalai Paruppu - 1 cup

Jaggery - 1 cup

Shredded coconut - one handful

Cardamom - 2 or 3 pods

Preparation:

1. Wash and soak channa dal | kadalai paruppu in water for 1 hour. Pressure cook for 4 whistles. Alternatively, you could boil it over a gas stove instead of using a pressure cooker. Allow it to cool.

2. In the maida first add ghee, and a little salt, and mix thoroughly. Add little water at a time and form a soft dough. Cover and set aside.

3. In a mixie, add the cooked channa dal (water completely strained), shredded coconut, and cardamom, and give it a run. Should mash well.

4. In a kadai over the stove, add the above mixture and saute for 4 to 5 minutes till it comes together. This step helps to form paruppu balls which are used for stuffing. In case you feel already the mixture is stiff enough such that it can hold a ball shape then ignore this step.

5. Prepare paruppu balls and keep them aside.

6. On a butter sheet or any polythene sheet, spread oil. Make balls from maida and flatten them slightly. Place the paruppu ball in the middle and pull the maida towards the center to cover the stuffing. Flatten it using your fingers. If required, smear oil slightly to ease the flattening process.

7. Heat a tawa, transfer the flattened maida with paruppu stuffing, pour oil, flip and cook. Keep the flame to medium and cook otherwise poli might get burnt.

8. Tasty Pappu Obbittu | Paruppu Poli | Pappu Obbattu is ready. Serve hot with ghee smeared on it.
