Ingredients:
Big onion - 2
Red chilies - 2
Tamarind - a small piece
Jaggery - 1 or 2 spoon
Salt
Hing
Mustard seeds for seasoning
Preparation:
1. First grind red chilies, tamarind, jaggery, salt, and hing. Give it a run.
2. Add chopped onions (wash the onions well so that the bitterness is removed) and give it a run. Grind to fine coarse chutney consistency. Remove it to a container.
3. In a tadka pan, add a few extra spoons of oil and splutter mustard seeds. Pour it on top of the chutney and leave it. DO NOT mix it now. Mix it just before serving.
4. Tasty Raw Onion chutney is ready. Serve as an accompaniment to Atukulu appam / Avul Appam or normal dosa/idli.
Notes:
1. Adjust the tamarind and jaggery quantity as per the balance you prefer.
2. This chutney doesn't require refrigeration. Doesn't get spoiled for 2 to 3 days at room temperature.
3. Wash the chopped onions well before grinding so that the bitterness is removed.
